Church Health

Churches don’t become healthy by accident any more than you can keep your body healthy by eating junk food and abusing your physical health. We must intentionally strive to become healthy, reproducing congregations, where new believers and established disciples can find a place to grow, serve, and share. Is your church healthy? How can you know? What indicators are available to determine if your church has poor health or great strength? And, what will help us to improve in the area of our greatest weakness? At Stone Mountain Baptist Association, we have a variety of tools and resources available to assist your church in becoming the healthy congregation that God meant for it to be.

1) Natural Church Development Survey:  NCD focuses on eight principles of church health that cross all cultural and denominational barriers. The NCD survey will measure your church’s health in these areas:

  • Empowering Leadership
  • Gift-Oriented Ministry
  • Passionate Spirituality
  • Functional Structures
  • Inspiring Worship
  • Holistic Small Groups
  • Need-Oriented Evangelism
  • Loving Relationships

2)  Reaching the Summit:  Avoiding or Reversing Decline in the Church. In partnership with George Yates, author of the book by this same title, we have trained coaches on our Church Health Team that can assist you in a year long journey to coach your church to health. Churches are asked to enlist a church health team of key leaders that will help the pastor and church staff implement the changes necessary for the church to be healthy.

3) Other Resources :

  • Building Consultation/Capital Campaigns
  • Sunday School/Small Groups
  • Specialized Training Courses for ministry leaders in your church (Men’s, Women’s, etc)
  • First Impressions (Greeter/Usher Training)
  • Others – just ask!
